What is the Media's Role in Democracy and the Impact of Quality Journalism
What is the news media's role in democracy and the impact of quality journalism on society? Dr Fielding’s research investigates how news media represents contested ideas in political and social contexts. She argues that society is best served by a lively, diverse news media marketplace of ideas where a range of different voices have access to mass audiences to have their voices heard. When the news media marketplace does not meet this ideal, democracy suffers.
