Bio
Prof. Michael Small is an applied mathematician and holds the CSIRO-UWA Chair of Complex Engineering Systems. He is lead investigator of the Australian Research Council Industrial Transformation Training Centre Transforming Maintenance Through Data Science, and on the project leadership team of the Young Lives Matter foundation. Michael’s research is in the area of complex systems, chaos, and dynamical systems theory. He uses these methods to investigate a range of problems from spread of disease and effective play in football teams, to flocking of birds, emergent machine learning and predictive failure of industrial machine components.
