Submersible-diving to the deepest places in the Oceans

Describing the experience of entering a two-person submersible and diving 11 kilometers underwater, deep-sea scientist Alan Jamieson shares insights from his participation in 16 sub dives across various oceans in the last 5 years. Many of these dives exceeded 6kms in depth, offering a unique perspective on technological challenges, philosophical musings about exploration, some often bizarre insights into the day in the life of deep diving subs, and of course the habitats and life that is discovered.

Bio

Alan Jamieson is Professor at The Oceans Institute and the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Western Australia and the founding Director of the Minderoo UWA Deep Sea Research Centre. His team works on everything from described many new species, molecular adaptation to high pressure, technologies for exploring these depths and how all these deep species are related to one another and their shallower counterparts. Alan’s current work at UWA is supported by a multi-million dollar award from the Minderoo Foundation and funding from Marine research organisation Inkfish.
