Fur, Flies, and the Future of Food
With one of the highest rates of pet ownership globally, there is little doubt that Australia is a pet loving nation. But has our love become problematic? As pet ownership continues to rise so too does the strain on our environment. Can we broaden our pet’s palates and look to alternative nutritional sources? It was these questions that sparked an idea that has taken Shaun Eislers on a journey into the world of pets and edible insects. In this talk Shaun will discuss how a casual Sunday morning conversation with his wife at a café turned into a mission to reimagine how we nourish our pets.
Bio
Shaun is the owner and founder of the pet food business Buggy Bix and board member of the Insect Protein Association of Australia (IPAA). After realising the important role edible insects will play in the future for not only human nutrition but also our pets, he embarked on a journey to develop one of Australia’s first insect based pet foods. With a background working in corporate innovation and as a start up founder, Shaun has navigated the highs and lows of being an early adopter in an emerging industry.
