Improving how engineers communicate – with computers
Imagine a doctor giving you a diagnosis without even looking at your medical records. This happens all the time in maintenance as the information about equipment history is stored as unstructured texts. Professor Melinda Hodkiewicz is a maintenance engineer, working with computer scientists, on a mission to make these texts machine readable so they can be used to make better decisions about our engineering assets. Come and discover why to do this isn’t as simple as running the texts through the latest AI algorithm.
Bio
Melinda Hodkiewicz and a team at UWA, Curtin University and CSIRO are part of local and global networks working on the future of maintenance. In 2016, Melinda was awarded the MESA Medal for services to the AM community and in 2019 was made a Fellow of the Australian Academy for Technology and Engineering (ATSE).
