Tuning in to young people: what’s the role of songwriting for imagining future gender cultures?
Want to know how young people imagine gender in the future? We understand gender is a social construct, and we know queer and gender diverse young people are subject to violence and harm when they transgress the boundaries. But when these topics are raised in schools, moral panics quickly emerge. What happens when we ask for young people’s thoughts on these issues, and how can we use music to communicate them? Join music therapist Dr Elly Scrine as they introduce songwriting not only as a method for data collection, but as a way for young people to write their own narratives and position themselves as the experts of their own experiences.
