Join Doug, an experienced entrepreneur as he talks through the funding journey of a business. Doug has bootstrapped several companies with no external funding, obtained external financing from different sources for several of his businesses, has had one go into administration, and successfully exited other businesses. In addition, he has worked financing start-up businesses as a venture capitalist, an angel investor, and an advisor facilitating government grants.

Bio

Originally from Adelaide, Doug travelled to the UK in 1982, with his first proper business involving interviewing rock stars and producing radio programmes. For the next decade, Doug co-founded businesses in the UK, Europe and Asia across the media, content and distribution industries. In 1996, Doug returned back to Australia and was involved in web/software (in BRW Fast 100), data analytics, loyalty programs, teenage mental wellbeing, boutique BnB, fan engagement, aged care tech and agricultural consulting businesses. Doug has acted as an Investment Manager at seed / early stage tech Venture Capital fund and has made 14 angel investments personally. His experience in this space has led to his role as Commercialisation Adviser for Accelerating Commercialisation (the largest early stage funder in SA), and is a Growth Expert at UniSA Centre for Business Growth.
