This talk explores the exciting and creative ways that international students find a sense of belonging while living overseas and apart from family, friends and the familiar.

Catherine Gomes is Associate Professor in the School of Media and Communication at RMIT University. She is a migration and mobility ethnographer whose speciality is researching into the everyday lives of transient migrants. Catherine’s publications include seven books, among which the latest are Siloed Diversity: Transnational Migration, Digital Media and Social Networks (Palgrave Pivot, 2018) and Transnational Migrations in the Asia-Pacific Transformative Experiences in the Age of Digital Media (with Brenda Yeoh, Rowman & Littlefield, 2018).
